FUTURE DEVELPEMENTS FOR THE STANDARD EN ISO 20345 : 2022

Since March 2022, safety shoe manufacturers have been able to design their shoes to the new version of the standard EN ISO 20345: 2022.

Since its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union in May 2023, EN ISO 20345: 2022 has been implemented throughout the European Union. The calendar includes a transition period to give safety shoe manufacturers the opportunity to certify their products according to the standard EN ISO 20345: 2011 or the new version EN ISO 20345: 2022. This transition period will run until 11 November 2024.

AET certifications are valid for 5 years. This means that the old and new versions of the standard will coexist on the market until 11 November 2029.

THE KEY CHANGES

NON-SLIP REQUIREMENT:

a detergent/ceramic slip test will now be included in the basic SB requirements. A glycerine/ ceramic test may be carried out too, as an additional requirement (SR label). Slip tests will now be carried out on the heel and the front of the foot (compared to the heel and the flat part of the sole currently tested).

PUNCTURE-PROOF REQUIREMENT :

the “P” label required today for the standard S1P and S3 labels remains but only for metallic inserts (puncture-proof plates). Non-metallic inserts (fabric or composite) are now labelled PL (the test is carried out with a “wide spike” measuring 4.5 mm) and PS (test carried out with a “narrow spike” measuring 3 mm).

HYDROCARBON-RESISTANT SOLE REQUIREMENT (FO LABEL) :

LABEL): this requirement is no longer mandatory for the S1, S2, S3 labels. In the new standard, it will become an additional requirement that will be useful in work environments exposed to hydrocarbons.

NEWS S6 AND S7 LABELS

to identify safety shoes that are completely water resistant thanks to a membrane or waterproof stitches, for example.

*The S6 label corresponds to a current S2 WR shoe.
*The S7 label corresponds to a current S3 WR shoe.

NEW ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

*The SC requirement includes the standardisation of abrasion-resistant “stone guard” toe caps with an abrasion test.

*The LG requirement includes offset heels, to improve the safety of users on ladders.

WHAT IS PARADE'S STRATEGY ?

Our innovations being currently developed will focus on the new standard as a priority. We are also going to progressively develop our current products towards the new standard. Inevitably, the two standards will coexist in our catalogue for several years.

During this transition period, Parade stands side by side with its customers to help them identify the products that best meet the specifics of their business, whatever the version of the standard they need.
